Borscht Belt : ウィキペディア英語版 | Borscht Belt Borscht Belt, or Jewish Alps, is a colloquial term for the (now mostly defunct) summer resorts of the Catskill Mountains in parts of Sullivan, Orange and Ulster counties in upstate New York. These resorts were a popular vacation spot for New York City Jews from the 1920s up to the 1970s.〔(Jewish scholars study history, cultural significance of the Borscht Belt )〕 ==Name== The name is a play on words of the term "Bible Belt". It comes from the fact that borscht (also transliterated as 'borshch' or 'borsch'), a beet-based soup from Ukraine that was brought by Ashkenazi Jewish immigrants to the United States, was and remains a popular dish in those resort hotels.
